FAQs

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support throughout pregnancy and birth.

Is a doula right for me?

Of course! Doulas exist to support anyone and everyone throughout pregnancy, labor, and birth! Whether you are having your first baby, your third baby, a pregnancy after loss, a caesarean, a VBAC or anything in between. A doula can support and empower you to make the decisions right for you.

Can’t my partner be my doula?

Fortunately, your partner can be a great support system throughout your labor and delivery! In fact, I highly encourage your partner to assist with your birth in whatever way they can. However, a doula is a trained professional, one who can provide pain relieving touch, encourage self advocacy, reduce the risk of vaginal tearing, and help you to have the most comfortable and empowering birth experience possible.

Do I still need a doctor or midwife if I hire a doula?

Yes, yes, and yes! Doctors and midwives are 100% necessary if you have hired a doula, as doulas DO NOT provide medical care or make medical decisions on behalf of the birthing person.
